THE GRATEFUL HEART (DAY 8)
The Grateful Heart is a two-week long devotional series dedicated to guiding women towards finding a grateful heart during difficult seasons of life and equipping them with the tools they need to take back their joy.
When Happiness Isn’t Enough
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope. (Romans 15:13)
We have made it one week into our devotional, and I am so thankful that you’ve been walking this path with me! The last seven days we have prayed and sought thankfulness in whatever season of life each of us is in. Today is a new day! Today we begin a few days of finding and taking refuge in the joy we have been promised. I’m so expectant of what God wants to do in your life!
This morning I spent time specifically praying for each of you that have been part of this devotional, and my heart was so overwhelmed with knowing how dearly cherished and loved each of you are.
I was so captivated by thinking about and praying about how powerful and valuable a group of the Most High God’s daughters are as we seek Him together and choose to follow Him. How amazing it is to determine in our hearts together that He is our provision, our strength, our refuge.
Recently I was talking with my sweet grandmother who has gone through a difficult time of being in the hospital and a transition of getting well again and beginning to plan for what is next. She told me that she had been praying with one of the CNA’s that she has been seeing at the rehab facility she was recently in and was so thankful for the difference that opportunity had made for both of them.
She talked about how she felt God had brought her to this place and will continue to bring her about to a new surrounding for the purpose of knowing and trusting that it was a new mission field. How incredible is that? Regardless of the physical, real circumstances of her surrounding she is choosing to give Him glory and know that He has a purpose and plan for her in each step of the way.
Today, sweet friend, let us choose joy. Let us choose to rejoice in being a part of what He is doing. Let us be thankful that, wherever we are, He has brought us to this place.
When Happiness Isn’t Enough Anymore
As we go through life, I know full well that it can be difficult to find joy. There are always ten easy steps that the internet would love to tell you about for finding more happiness in your life, or lists you’re encouraged to make about pros and cons, or even just the promises that chocolate would heal every hard day.
This past week as we have been trying to find thankfulness in Him, it has so loudly resonated in my heart that joy is never something that we can work out on our own. It is not something to be earned or to be fabricated. It is unshakeable and it is not far.
Joy Is Found When…
- It is to be found when we choose Him.
- It is found when we realize in all that He has done and all that He has promised, we are wholly and wonderfully kept in His love.
- It is found when we no longer fight for or try to wager for the happiness of the world, but when we determine in our hearts that what Jesus has done was enough. That because the veil was torn and in this very moment, as two or three or more of us gather in His presence, that He is there with us (Matthew 18:20).
Joy is the unshaken and unwavering trust and hope of knowing that His promises are sure, even when our eyes and ears and heart can’t perceive it. Our spirit can rest in Him. Our spirit can trust in Him. It can be glad in who He is because He is all that we have ever needed.
Today, even if things don’t go as planned, let us all pray together that God would bring about His fruit of joy (Galatians 5:22) as we continue to be dwellers within His presence. And with that joy, let us remember that His purpose and plan for our lives is full of hope. His Word promises that He hears us when we pray and that sometimes He is waiting for us to receive His provision until we pray for it (John 16:24). Today, let us boldly come before Him together.
He is our refuge. He is our strength. He is our joy.
