THE GRATEFUL HEART (DAY 9)

The Grateful Heart is a two-week long devotional series dedicated to guiding women towards finding a grateful heart during difficult seasons of life and equipping them with the tools they need to take back their joy.

Love the Giver, Not Just the Gifts

Delight yourselves in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart. (Psalm 37:4)

What does it mean to delight yourself in the Lord?

The easy answer that my human mind wants to go to is delighting in the joy of walking with Him because all goes well. Of course, we can delight in someone who gives us good gifts! Absolutely we can find delight in someone who brings a smile to our face with their provision.

But is that what it really means?

THE GRATEFUL HEART (DAY 8)

The Grateful Heart is a two-week long devotional series dedicated to guiding women towards finding a grateful heart during difficult seasons of life and equipping them with the tools they need to take back their joy.

When Happiness Isn’t Enough

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope. (Romans 15:13)

We have made it one week into our devotional, and I am so thankful that you’ve been walking this path with me! The last seven days we have prayed and sought thankfulness in whatever season of life each of us is in. Today is a new day! Today we begin a few days of finding and taking refuge in the joy we have been promised. I’m so expectant of what God wants to do in your life!

Fostering Faith Amongst Anxiety (Day 7)

The Grateful Heart (Day 7)

The Grateful Heart is a two-week long devotional series dedicated to guiding women towards finding a grateful heart during difficult seasons of life and equipping them with the tools they need to take back their joy.

Fostering Faith Amongst Anxiety

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. (Philippians 4:6)

One of my favorite parts of the Bible is found in Matthew 14:13-21. This is when Jesus had found Himself surrounded by a crowd so hungry and so longing just to be in His presence and hear what He had to say that they had followed Him to a solitary and far off place. In their hunger for Him they ended up finding themselves hungry for food and without place or provision to go to.

The Bounty of Marriage

I don’t know about you, but quickly after my husband and I got married we found ourselves pretty knee deep in STUFF all around our house. We didn’t live together before we got married, so suddenly there were boxes of my things, his things, wedding gifts, wedding decor, half-done projects, random furniture and more hopes and dreams than I could handle.

And hey! How easy was that to handle in the moment? Stuff things in closets, fill up new drawers and move along.

The Lie of Isolation (Day 6)

The Grateful Heart (Day 6)

The Grateful Heart is a two-week long devotional series dedicated to guiding women towards finding a grateful heart during difficult seasons of life and equipping them with the tools they need to take back their joy.

The Lie of Isolation

For as [a man] thinks in his heart, so is he. (Proverbs 23:7)

I heard a really remarkable sermon recently by Wendy Perez about facing trials. In one part of it, she was talking about a time when she sat with a friend facing a divorce.

After talking for a long time about the details, about the hope held, about the next steps… Her friend looked at her and said “This is the hardest thing I have ever gone through and I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy. But I have to remember that it is only one part of my life. I have my career, I have two amazing kids, I have a family standing behind me. This is only one part of it, and I have to remember that.”

This is a truth that I think we need to thoughtfully consider, sweet friend. I don’t know about you but I am way too prone to think my entire life is in shambles when one part of it goes wrong.

The Grateful Heart (Day 5)

The Grateful Heart is a two-week long devotional series dedicated to guiding women towards finding a grateful heart during difficult seasons of life and equipping them with the tools they need to take back their joy.

Learning to See the Good

You are my Lord; I have no good apart from you. (Psalm 16:2)

Take a moment to reflect on this last week. Yesterday. This morning. What were those moments like? What happened? Things expected..or even unexpected?

For me, it is always incredibly easy to look at a span of time and be able to easily list off the nuisances or the hard things that my day could hold. But what about the good things? Maybe you received an unexpected check in the mail, maybe you avoided a car accident, maybe you were told a kind and encouraging word right when you needed it. I am guilty of forgetting! But this morning my spirit is encouraged with reminding myself that there is so much more beauty in those blessings than in the little hiccups of the day.

The Grateful heart (Day 4)

The Grateful Heart is a two-week long devotional series dedicated to guiding women towards finding a grateful heart during difficult seasons of life and equipping them with the tools they need to take back their joy.

Choosing Thankfulness

Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. (James 1:2-4)

This morning, as I sit staring at the words of this scripture, my heart resonates with one prayer:

Don’t relent, Lord.

It’s so difficult to have this ongoing battle between my flesh and my spirit of wanting every day to be sunshine and smiles and a happy life yet my spirit is just wanting more Jesus – whatever the cost.

When It Seems God Is Late (Day 3)

Trusting God's Timing | Choosing Joy | Thanksgiving Devotionals | Beneath the Cherry Tree | When It Seems God is Late

The Grateful Heart (Day 3)

The Grateful Heart is a two-week long devotional series dedicated to guiding women towards finding a grateful heart during difficult seasons of life and equipping them with the tools they need to take back their joy.

When IT Seems God Is Late

The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead, he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. (2 Peter 3:9)

Sometimes in the middle of a difficult season, we can find ourselves wondering if and when it will ever end and how bumped and bruised it will leave us. When it seems that God seems late and our situation is mixed and unpredictable, it is hard for our hearts to hold onto hope. We can play the “what if” game a million times and still find ourselves strung out believing for the worst case scenarios. Have you ever wondered why the worst case scenario is always our comfort place? Occasionally, if I think about every possible bad outcome about something I’m going through, I start to believe that I’ve equipped myself for the reality.

The Hope of Unfinished Work (Day 2)

Find God's Plan for Your Life | Choosing Joy | How to Find Hope | Thanksgiving Devotionals | Beneath the Cherry Tree

The Grateful Heart (Day 2)

The Grateful Heart is a two-week long devotional series dedicated to guiding women towards finding a grateful heart during difficult seasons of life and equipping them with the tools they need to take back their joy.

The Hope of Unfinished Work

And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns. (Philippians 1:6)

Yesterday we all prayed alongside one another about the areas of our life that we were struggling to find thankfulness and joy in. We gave them over to God together, and that is a HUGE step. I’ve been praying all day yesterday and today that our hearts would open about those closed up places and that God’s restoration was like rain in a dry place.

Today is a new day! And today is a day I want us all to start with a resounding truth that rings louder in our ears than anything the world can try to throw at us – He is the God who finishes what He started! He has begun an AMAZING work in your life. Even if this is a difficult season, there is so much hope in His unfinished work.

Overcoming the Overwhelm (Day 1)

Thanksgiving | Thanksgiving Devotional | Overcoming | Christian Living | Gratitude | Beneath the Cherry TreeThe Grateful Heart (Day 1)

The Grateful Heart is a two-week long devotional series dedicated to guiding women towards finding a grateful heart during difficult seasons of life and equipping them with the tools they need to take back their joy.

Overcoming the Overwhelm

In a season of going through trials, tests and just the rawness of life it can be so overwhelming sometimes. Gratefulness feels distant and unapproachable. Physical circumstances like the sting of illness, the lack of finances or a job that takes the best of us are real things. Depression, anger, bitterness, busyness or feeling out of control are real emotions. Even just feeling complacent or like life is going through the motions and feeling desolate because of it can be a struggle. As women, I think we all know regardless of whatever trials we face or have faced that the feeling of being too much and not enough all at the same time is one we can know all too well.
